Lumenite™ Facet Rough, Glow in the Dark Strontium Aluminate Monocrystal

This is Lumenite™, the rarest and most precious lab gem currently available.  Each piece is individually photographed and priced.

Lumenite™ is a monocrystal of strontium aluminate, the most phosphorescent material known to science.  This material was first discovered in the late 90s and is widely used as a glow-in-the-dark pigment, but growing a large single crystal is so difficult that some scientists told us it was outright impossible.  However it turns out it is only almost impossible, as Dr. Daniel Rytz at Brevalor devoted over a decade of his life to untangling it.  We funded the growth of a couple crystals to help advance the science and we're making it available to the community.  As an experimental and extremely difficult-to-grow material it comes at a high premium but I'm extremely glad we've had a chance to be involved--this is the most gorgeous material I've ever worked with.

Note that the crystals are still not completely perfect, showing a silky chatoyance caused by twinning, but their clarity is still good and they cut absolutely stunning gemstones.

The hardness is around 6.5, so it is not ideal for ring wear but great for pendants and earrings.  It cuts and polishes well with diamond.
