Mutant YbAG Lab Garnets

These are gems cut from a defective crystal of ytterbium aluminum garnet (or at least it was supposed to be), or YbAG, which was custom grown for us and went wrong. 

This is a brand new garnet which was grown for us!  YbAG has been used in the laser industry but has never been publicly available to the gem world as far as we know.  It should have been a deep blue but turned out a weird mix of blue, green, gold, brown and opalescent.  How odd!  These stones may never be available again unless the same mistake can be replicated.
