Cut Purple Sapphire, Color Change Gemstones

These are faceted stones cut from labmade purple color change sapphire. Many of these stones have some nice color changes depending on lighting, and will show flashes of multiple colors under mixed lighting. Some have more or less of a color change, the photos show them under different lighting conditions in order to try to capture the colors.

Color change sapphire is an all-time classic.  The color change aspect comes from vanadium, which is often mixed in with chromium or other elements to tweak it.  It shows purple, blue and pink tones depending on the lighting, and mixed lighting can show flashes of all of them.

Some of them are bubbly, or show ripples from the growth process, we got this from an old eastern European collection and it may be a mix of flame fusion and other growth methods.

Color change sapphires is sometimes incorrectly sold as lab alexandrite, and because mislabeled stones were sold on cruise ships in the 70's and 80's, jewelers sometimes call it "grandma's alexandrite".  Personally, I think this is cool enough that there isn't any reason to mislabel it - the color change is great, and has its own distinct charm.

With a hardness of 9 sapphire is ideal for use in all kinds of jewelry.
