Rough Orange Sapphire, Flame Fusion Crystals

These are pieces of labmade orange sapphire grown by the now defunct Swiss Djeva corporation. These were grown with the flame fusion method, the oldest technique for growing large sapphire crystals, invented by the Auguste Verneuil in 1883. As typical for flame fusion sapphires, these pieces are all split to reduce internal stresses.

With a hardness of 9 sapphire is ideal for use in all kinds of jewelry.
