Soviet Blue Sapphire, Vintage Flame Fusion Stones

These are faceted stones cut from labmade blue sapphire sourced from an old soviet collection. As these were grown for jewelry they range between different shades and intensities, some leaning more purple. Many of these stones have some small color shifts as well, depending on lighting, but they all stay in the blue or slightly purplish blue range.

Some of them are bubbly, or show ripples from the growth process.  Many of the paler stones show a distinctive zoning combining both darker and lighter regions - this is due to dopants getting concentrated at the edge during the flame fusion growth process.

With a hardness of 9 sapphire is ideal for use in all kinds of jewelry.
